Hello all,
(I did search before posting ;)) I am looking to add a red dot sight to my M&P Shield EZ 9 performance center. I have no idea if the gun is ‘sight ready’ or if it needs a modification to accommodate this.

I’d like to add a red dot sight because I am having trouble aiming with the iron sights (green) and I’ve been asked to consider a red dot sight.

I did add a TLR8 (tactical light + red laser) and love it.

Thanks in advance!

Honestly, you would do better to take some marksmanship training first. A good coach could probably help you diagnose what you are dealing with as well as understand the capability of your pistol and whether it could host a red dot.

Red dot sights and lights add bulk to handguns. This can considerably impact a gun's utility in both home defense and carry contexts. Both issues are considerations when making decisions about such accessories.

A quick search online for these doesn't show them prepared to host red dot sights.

I appreciate the response and the guidance. I am definitely trying to become a better marksman using only iron sights, but I also want to try shooting with the red dot sights and have it available as an option. I already find that the tactical laser is easy to use and shoot, and it does not add bulk to the gun at all.

Yet, I couldn't help but notice you didn't have even as much as those two did to offer as advice.

Nor do I really. I've got a couple of EZ's but they're stock out of the box. I've tried a couple of "dot" sights and didn't particularly care for them, but I can't say I really gave them much of a chance.. I've tried red and green laser's too. They were worse for me, dancing all over the target and causing me to jerk the trigger trying to "catch" the dot. I probably needed some training instead of thinking I knew everything right from the start.

I supose you could have a gunsmith drill and tap an EZ slide for a DOT plate, but the loaded chamber indicator might be a problem. I'm not a gunsmith, so that's just a SWAG. The two guns I tried with dots, (a Taurus G-3, and a Canik, I forget which model), came "dot ready" from the factory. Good guns, both, but I never really warmed up to the sights.

Good luck with your search though, and welcome to the forum. Pull up a chair. Sit on the floor. Coffee is almost ready. Grab yourself a cup out of the sink. NOT the blue one. That one is the dog's and he's funny about who drinks out of his cup.

My wife has the EZ 9 and I purchased a good quality adapter plate that takes the place of the rear sight. Several companies like Galloway Precision and mountsplus.com make them. After a lot of research, I went with the mountsplus.com one that fits the Holsun 407C, of which I mounted a green 6moa one on hers. Works perfectly and hasn't moved a bit after several hundred rounds. I also have one on my Sig 365 and it has also been rock solid for thousands of rounds.
