A friend of mine has sent me two photos of what she believes is a Smith and Wesson third generation training pistol. It’s made of metal and weighs 26 ounces. I have seen numerous training pistols in my 30+ year law enforcement career, but never one like this. Anyone have any information about this?

Looks like any of a number of training devices I have seen made of sand castings of light alloys or more recently plastics. They are useful for training scenarios where use of actual weapons is not desirable. Hand to hand combat, searching and securing prisoners and so on. I assume this is a solid piece of alloy with no function.
I have seen similar aluminum castings of firearms that are used by holster makers to wet form holsters,
