Model 17-3 Production date?

Hello everyone. I just found the site and signed up a few minuts ago.
This is a great forum and it seems that you guys have all the answers. I was wondering if someone out there could give me the approximate production date of my S&W Model 17-3 .22 pistol. It has 6 " barrel with adjustable sights and the serial number is 6K48xxx.

Thanks for the welcome and for the reply to my question on the 17-3. I bought it from a gentleman who is in his late 70s. He stated that he had not fired it in over 15 years and that he thinks he had it for 30+ years. So that figures into your time frame. The good thing is that he kept it in like new condition. I'm still trying to find my way around the forum and when I figure out how to send pictures, I'll give it a try.
