I have tried to use several normal red dot sights for my pistol but with my astigmatism I could not use them. I ordered a Holosum green dot circle recently, put it on my new M&P, it works great for me. No astigmatism distortion at all. With this sight, I no longer have a distortion at 25 yard shooting where the 6” target is covered up by the front sight. The circle dot is not conducive to making half dollar holes in targets but it works great for 1” to 2” poa to poi.
Older guys like me have trouble with their eye sight not being what it once was and neither are our hands as steady as they once were when firing a pistol, but all things considered, this green dot circle is a real game changer for me in my old age.
They are a bit expensive, and some may not want to take the risk if it does not work for them, but if you are an older shooter it may very well work for you and help you to not be so frustrated at the range that old age often brings.
