I need some information on a revolver. Stamped on top of the revolver is "38S&W.CTGE" Updated info: bottom of handle is stamped "H&R Arms" Person offering me gun cannot find serial on revolver. please take a look at pics and let me know what you think. Estimate on value would be great! Thank you for any assistance you can provide. Thanks guys!

This pistola might be worth $75-100. But the ammo is going to cost you close to $40 a box. It's an H&R single action revolver and Victor is the model name. It shoots the .38 S&W cartridge. Teh cartridge is smaller and less powerful than the .38 Special we're all used to seeing these days. The cartridge is rarely produced by current commercial ammo manufacturers, and it's generally difficult to find. It's found mostly at gun shows, and loaded by independant professional reloaders. If the cartridge is loaded improperly it's pretty dangerous in an old revolver like this one. The serial number on all H&R revolvers is stamped on the bottom of the butt. If it isn't there, somebody has removed it.
I've purchased quite a few H&R revolvers over the years, and I would pass on this one.
