I believe that an "Eastern" carbine is just a SRC without the saddle ring.

Unless you're planning to use the saddle ring and attach a short leather thong loop to it for hanging onto a saddle horn or peg, it is a noisy, rattly thing that is distracting and alerts game to your presence.

Some folks who wanted a carbine, but had no intention of using it on horseback would wisely order one without the ring. Collectors are presuming that SRCs are "western" horseback guns and carbines without the ring are "eastern" guns meant for ground pounders. I'm sure that there were plenty of both around - east and west.
