I'm planning on using a 6.5 Red Dot recipe, but have a question about crimp grooves.

I've got some D&J 300gr TCFP that two grooves. These are the same exact pills as shown below (I hope Roper doesn't mind if I use his picture):

I'm using a Ruger Redhawk and am curious to know which crimp groove I should use.

Thanks!

I would try to use the one that will allow the longest cartridge O.A.L. and this will hopefully still allow the Ruger cylinder to turn. There will be less bullet jump from cylinder throat to forcing cone and will likely be more accurate.

Also, bullets seated farther out will run lower pressure in the case than the same bullet seated deeper.

Outstanding. That was what I was looking for. There's still plenty of room in my Redhawk's chamber using the lower groove, so that's what I'll do.

Thanks! :D
