If I could buy 1 more expensive revolver it would probably be a 625 Mountain Gun. The recent model 27 no dash purchase has left me tapped out of gun money for nowA few more of the 45 ACP revolvers I have enjoyed.
Here is the S&W Model 625 45 ACP Mountain Gun, paired with my S&W Model 28-2 Foothills Revolver.

Here is a S&W Model 25-2. The barrel is cut to 4 1/4” and has a McGivern gold bead on the Patridge front sight. The grip from was rounded and grooved. The hammer was bobbed and it was converted to double action only.

I bought the Mountain Gun specifically to pair with the 45 ACP S&W Model 28-2. I think they make a nice pair.If I could buy 1 more expensive revolver it would probably be a 625 Mountain Gun. The recent model 27 no dash purchase has left me tapped out of gun money for now
Why was the tapered barrel found to be less than ideal? With that much barrel and the 45acp cartridge, I wouldn't think heat build up would lead to inaccuracy, especially considering you have to stop to reload every 6 roundsContinuing with the ACP revolver, here is the first target model 45 ACP produced by S&W, the S&W Model 1950. This model also incorporated the new short action lock works.

Prior to this model, if you wanted a target ACP revolver from S&W it was a custom built revolver.
However, there was some small group of dedicated revolver shooters who found the tapered barrel to be less than ideal so 5 years later the S&W Model 1955 was offered to the public.

Basically the same revolver with the exception it had a full diameter barrel.
The two were produced side by side until the Model 1950 was discontinued in 1961. Only 2768 of the Model 1950 were produced and sold.
