Is this the glock copy gun?
S&W was sued by Glock over the design of the Sigma. S&W ended up having to pay Glock. The SD9 followed the Sigma, and then the SD9VE was produced. They must have changed it enough to get around whatever part of the design that Glock sued for, but I don't know for sure. These days there are a lot of Glock Clones that will interchange with Glock parts. The SD9VE is not one of them.

I don't have a night table, but my gun safe is right next to the bed, on my side. There's a M66-1 snubbie lying on top of the safe, and over 30 assorted revolvers, pistols, shotguns and rifles to choose from inside.
But when you have about 1-2 seconds to decide - what can you grab?

If that's all I have, the M66-1 is loaded and has a flashlight next to it that will blind you at 30 feet. I should have a bit more time than that, though, because I have two dogs asleep in between the front and back door. One is about 80 pounds and is part Lab and part Pit Bull. She's not mean, but her bark leads you to think you're going to lose a limb if she wants it. The other dog is about 80 ounces and her best trick is getting underfoot and tripping you. In all the commotion and confusion, I should be able to grab something else, but the .357M is as good as anything at 15 feet. The top of my safe is less than 4 feet from me when I'm in bed.

No grand kids, so a short barreled Rem 870 and a commander sized 1911 are within reach of the bed. Only real decision is which one to grab when something goes bump in the night. JA

My every day carry gun, (A Glock 43X) and a Mag Lite, is all I have close to me at night. Scattered throughout the house but out of the reach of any of the occasional visiting kids are a couple of old Ruger P-89's.

Something to consider for your night stand gun. My night stand guns (& EDC) run well and shoot point of aim. However, I don't care about them. In the sense, if it were gone I wouldnt care. If you ever have to use it and the situation ends up in court, the gun is going to hang on a hook in an evidence vault for a long time. It will not be cleaned, or cared for. If a CQB situation and the gun has blood on it, double the speed of the deterioration. Things may be different, in different parts of the country dealing with evidence retention. Keep that in mind if you have Pa Paw's 98% Model 29 in the night stand drawer.
