i just got back from the Mountains in North Eastern Georgia where I did a qualification for some retired Law Enforcement Officers who are carrying under HR 218 LEOSA Act.

These are all retired Law Enforcement officer who are honorably retired and can carry concealed. These guys and gals being retired can purchase any gun they desire for their CCW firearm. i thought it might be fun to let you all know what guns of choice are and the calibers . Remember these guys can shoot and purchase any gun they choose. They are not restricted by Department Regulations.

Here is the Run down Total Shooters 44.

Glock Pistols 30

Sig Sauer Pistols 10

Smith Wesson Pistols 4

Calibers

.45 ACP 6

.40 s$W 10

9 mm 26

.380 2

These retired officers were from various Departments through out Florida .

Just thought you would all like to know

Sounds like they shoot what they’re comfortable with. Nothing wrong with that.

It would be interesting to know if those were mostly what they carried at work?

That is interesting that all are semis and no revolvers. Guess as stated would be interesting to see how many of those were their duty guns. Thanks for posting.

Very interesting data. Wife and I are heading to those N. GA mountains in a couple of weeks for annual fall vaca. Major R&R. From what I don’t know, we’re both retired. We just love it there.

To that, you can add mine. I ret. from local NJ dept due to injury. Caried G21 and G30 in winter up there and G30 and Ruger LCR 357 Mag in summer. Now have TN carry permit but HR 218 still valid in 50 states. I just don't want to be the test case.

PS: I carry them b/c they always go boom. If I'm at a BBQ, I'm a 1911 in .45 man.

I'm surprised there aren't more Colt 1911s in 38 Super. :D FWIW, CCSO issues Colt Series 80 1911s in .45 auto, Sheriff carries a nice Colt Commander. :)

Thanks for posting this. Always interested in LEOSA stuff. I've done LEOSA for several years. I do use one of those archaic 1911 type pistols for qualification;)

Mostly Glocks for the reasons already stated.

LEOs around here are really great guys but not necessarily firearms enthusiasts. Many don't shoot much other than what is required for qualifying. That's ok, they don't need to be Operators. I think much of the public has a distorted view of police and firearms.

ChattanoogaPhil, You are sure right about that. The VAST majority of LEOs are "not necessarily firearms enthusiasts". I worked a big city department, later a much smaller one. Same in both, most officers just considered guns another piece of gear they were required to carry. One Forest Service LEO I had lunch with one day considered anyone with an interest in firearms, beyond what was required by their employer, "Gun queers".

I know two retired big city cops who never fired their weapons on duty except for qualifications. Neither of them own a gun. Cops are not necessarily a good indicator of what to carry.
