Back in January I bought a sweet 24-3 from a friend of mine. It was one of the ones from that run done back in the early 80s. The gun had Hogue rubbers on it. The previous owner said when he found the original grips he would give me them too. Today he gave me a nice set of smooth Targets. I thought back in the 80s all S&W grips were checkered. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. These are nice grips, they feel trimmer than most of the "Goncalo Alves Target" grips I've handled from that time period.

I was just wondering what came on the guns back then. I'm really busy this weekend, but I'll eventually post some pics.

As I recall most of the ones I saw new in the 1980s had checkered magnas and if the purchaser wanted target grips we made a deal with the purchaser. We always kept a few pairs of target grips in stock.
