Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! It's unusual, but possible. However, the right side cutout should match the left. Possible that the panels were switched.
I had a 27-2 at one time that had the right side grip was almost blonde with a darker, almost black strip running through it. The left side was a darker, more or less "normal" Smith and Wesson grip color. I don't know if they came that way from the factory, were a mismatch set (target stocks) or what, but I thought they looked GREAT.
Yeah, I'm going to guess that is a post-factory-original unmatched set, although I'm seen some pretty darn wide variations.
Like others here, I collect S&W factory stocks/grips just like I collect the guns themselves. I am fortunate to have a shop I frequent that is big into vintage factory originals of the highest quality at fair prices. Everybody seems to want rubber grips today, and he takes full advantage of that trend.
Whenever I pick-up a used S&W revolver with stocks that are rubber or worn or that I just want to improve on, I go visit him and trade up!
