I've got some brand new 454 brass and don't imagine that I'll own another 454. I'd like to trim it down and use it for some heavier 300gr 45 Colt loads.

Anyone run into any problems doing this? Any hints or tricks. All I've got is a Lyman case trimmer.

Thanks! :D

kind of expensive
other than that, that brass was made for small rifle magnum primers. Standard small pistol primers may give you some trouble in a case that size
I am not sure if the web is thicker in the 454 case. I'm thinking it's not. Cut one and see I guess
No, don't do that, let me see if I have a split case here. I had one, just not sure what I did with it

I would think that the 454 cases are worth more than an equal number of 45 Colt cases. Perhaps trade with someone who has Colt cases?

I like Winchester primers and have some WSR primers, think they'd be fine? I'm using H110 and I know that magnum primers are beneficial for ball powders but since Winchester primers run a little hot.............

Parson - that certainly is an option. I think I've got about a dozen of them. Anybody want to trade? ;)

what brand of 45 Colt brass do you prefer?
I have Remington, PMC, Winchester and maybe some Starline I'd trade you, and I'll throw in a box of Uncle Ben's Instant Grits

Well, I've got 50 cases marked F-A (Federal ?). A couple of them have some tarnish, the rest are clean. I've had them for some time and they aren't as shiny as they once were. None of them have ever been loaded.

I am partial to Starline, but would take whatever you didn't want. I ain't very picky. ;)
