Looking for a 24” barrel for my 336 30-30. I’ve only found one so far.

Ruger bought Marlin a year ago. I don't know what happened to the parts stocks. It might be worth contacting them to see if they can help you.
Could you put a Marlin 36 barrel on a 336?
Disregard. I found out you cannot
OK, here is the question I should’ve asked from beginning: I want to thread the barrel on my rifle for a suppressor, but a gunsmith I took it to said that he would have to cut the front side off and shorten the magazine tube just to have enough space to do the threads. I called a different Smith for a second opinion, and he thought that was ridiculous. I would like to purchase an old 20 inch barrel to serve this purpose since I cannot afford to buy one of the new rifles that Ruger is making. Is there any reason why this would not work?

Why would one do that to such a beautiful rifle? I’ve a 1981 336C and it’s flawlessly crafted.

It’s certainly yours to do with whatever you choose, but…

Well, it’s my favorite rifle. However, I’ll just buy a different barrel and swap the factory original. There are several 336 barrels on eBay for reasonable prices. It’s cheaper than a new firearm at the moment.

Granted, the Mossberg 464 SPX is an attractive alternative.
If it were me, I'd leave the Marlin as stock as possible, but then again I don't even care for scopes on a lever action, although I do have one on a Savage 99. I don't think you would come out ahead even with another barrel for the Marlin with the modification you describe. If you really want a suppressor on a lever action, I would look into the Mossberg 464 more closely and see if the flash suppressor threads are compatible with a suppressor. You might find this video interesting.
Ok, after consulting another smith and reading these responses (and seeing how much the value of an old marlin has gone up) I’ve decided not to mess with it.

I can’t seem to watch the video. Can you post a hyperlink? Thanks.

Good Choice! I would probably look at the Mossy, as its already some what made for the type of mods that you desire.
Cherish your beautiful Marlin, as they are getting harder to find, and becoming collectible to many folks.
Well, I’ve read reviews on the 464 that have me questioning how good it really is. I could take a chance and order one, but I think I’ll look at local places, see if there’s anything I like. Heck, I might start investing in .308. I’ve got some free bullets from Hornady on the way in that diameter.
I'm having trouble with copying the hyperlink for some reason. The guy making the video is Broken Barrels AZ on YouTube.
You might want to look at bolt action scout type rifles that are suppressor compatible. I think Ruger and others have that style of rifle in their lineups.
