Everything about this Internet MEME is absolutely true.

Now, the question for Democrats must be, "is this racist" ?

What is confusing about it?

Lincoln was a republican, and changed the course of the country by freeing the slaves. This lead to the ticked off southern democrats seceding from the union because they didn't feel that he (and by extension the federal government) had the right to override their state sovereignty like that.

Trump is today's republican, and he is trying to change the course of the country - away from globalism. This is ticking off all the democrats because they don't feel like he has the right to undo all the progress they have made in that direction, and they are almost at the point of open revolt as a result.

Pretty apt analogy and clear as glass IMO.

Well, there were a lot of causes for the "War of Northern Aggression" (mostly unfair taxation of the South IIRC). Slavery was brought up somewhat late- the Emancipation Proclamation was signed a year and a half into the war.

Remember this quote from Lincoln: "My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that."

Like the meme though.

All true, but he and most Yankees made it pretty clear early on that abolishing slavery was something that was going to happen and that they were going to impose their will on the south, by force if that's what it took. And yes unfair taxation of the southern states and similar methods of domination of the south by the northern states was a big part of the issue from the very outset.

Nevertheless, the Emancipation Proclamation and similar acts of the federal government imposing its will on the states and usurping their sovereignty was at the heart of the matter, even before Lincoln declared slaves free.

I might be rusty on my history, but if my teachings' are anywhere near factual, I believe President Lincoln (even during his campaign) were Samsung/Android believers...the South were I-Phone fanatics. It's no wonder they squared off into a 'Civil War' and I hope we don't see it happen again! ;)

Actually, someone from Arkansas hacked Lincoln's telegraph lines... then blamed it on the Russians...

As we toss around details of Lincoln's motives, and observe both his actions and the long term impact of them (including guilt by association as practiced by the modern reparations apologists) imagine how confusing this must all be to the Internet savvy socialists now steering the Democrat political machine!

Was Lincoln good or bad based on his actions, his attitudes, his party association, his regional culture, his race or his long term legacy? Was he more prominent in our history because he didn't survive into his second term or because those left behind had to elevate him to the point of worship?

His actions infuriated Democrats who had lost a fighting war, lost their culture, lost their assets and lost their means and way of life. This is the same Democrat party that rules the political machine today. Where are the reparations, guilt by association and revulsion for their long held attitudes? If they think adopting "socialism" will fix it all, they are sadly and tragically mistaken.

How do they think average Americans will react if they do succeed in impeaching President Trump, and even in removing him from office? Implementing their plans for our culture, economy and legal system will irreparably damage the United States, destroy our security and send us on a path to perdition.

Of course it's "racist" to the Left because it represents a fact! Despite what reality dictates the Liberals want to swap out fact for fiction....... but what else is new!?

The Emancipation Proclamation was issued because Britain was considering entering the war on the side of the south. They needed the cotton. Lincoln knew the war would drag on for a long time with the south gaining the materiel needed to continue from England. Lincoln officially made the war about abolishing slavery forcing Britain to walk away.

I hear a lot of blather, from the Democrats about "financial reparations" to Blacks, but it's funny how none of them contribute a DIME, to
what they are so blithely claiming is "such a worthy cause". Clinton Foundation: ZERO contributions. From Obama's millions: ZERO contributions.
OH, Joy, Whoopee, and the REST of THE VIEW: ZERO CONTRIBUTIONS.

So the Republicans not only FREED the slaves, we're also supposed to be the ONLY ONES held financially responsible, for the Democrat's slavery...

Interesting thread! However, by all rights, this should not be referred to as a "Civil War". That would imply that the south was trying to overthrow the existing government which was never true. Instead, it should be referred to as "The War of Southern Secession" or "The War to Prevent Southern Secession" as all the southern states were trying to do was to leave the union. As stated earlier, If Lincoln could have achieved his goal of preserving the union without dealing with the slavery issue he would have done so.

And, FWIW, Lincoln only freed the slaves in areas still in control of the Confederacy. I may be wrong, but I think I remember that from my reading. And the Russians were probably involved! Hank
