I traded for this revolver back when I had a FFL 03.

The revolver was purchased by a guy that placed it in a closet. He never fired it or handled the box, tools, and docs. After his death, the widow sold it to a local gun store. I got it soon after. I found a poster that S&W used when they introduced the production (April, 1954). This one lettered to 5-16-1954. Highway Patrolman is stamped on the right side of the barrel.

I don't believe there's anything not to like about a Highway Patrolman. I've never been a big fan of the .357, but the big N-Frame 28s do a great job of minimizing the recoil and muzzle blast, even with the 4-inch barrel.

Here's a photo of my all matching numbers Pre-28. It shipped in March of 1954.

Hey 1911..nice pre model 28! I am fortunate enough to have 2 HP's, a 4" and 6" 28-2's. Both great shooters and the 4" has the best trigger out of any other S&W I own. The 6" has been re-blued and is from 1969, the 4" is from 1973.

first N frame i ever bought.. picked it up from a member here quite a while back.. its currently on permanent loan to the SIL, told him i hoped it would find its way to the grandson when the time came.. its a S numbered 28-2 from 1966 that saw state police duty back in the day..

Pretty clear when you pick it up what a handgun as a tool is supposed to be..
