The bidding/haggling has to start somewhere. If he's offering 400 too low, counter with 400 too high. Smile and enjoy the game.

I had once attended a show in Nashville Tn.
My wife’s uncle had a table and we arrived
early on Saturday morning to finish the set up.
Ol’ uncle placed a long gun case under the table
instructing me that a man was coming to look at it.
I asked what was the sale price if the guy wanted it.
Uncle said 10,000 firm. And that he (uncle) would be back directly

Well the fellow showed up to look the shotgun over real good.
He was dressed nice with a little bow tie.
Looking up at me, he says, ten, correct?
I said yes Sir, with that he laid five, two thousand dollar
banded wrapper packs on the table.
The gentleman left with his B grade Parker.

Ya never know what will happen.

The man that sold the Parker and the man that bought it is both passed on now.

I guess, I can tell the rest of the story now....
The man wearing the bow tie was Mr. Turner Kirkland
of Dixie Gun Works

Good grief. Kirkland’s catalogs are collectibles.

I was listening to the Gun Guys on the Wilson Combat YT channel yesterday and they were laughing at how, before Dirty Harry, those guns were now expensive or even that popular,
I paid $250.00 for this 29-3 brand new at a shop called A&P Arms in Virginia Beach in the early 80's, also picked up a Thompson 1927 A1 Deluxe for $500.00 from them, and one of the first Desert Eagle .357 Magnum pistols, that was also $500.00. They were a great shop.

My first S&W 44 Magnum was a four inch, five screw.

My friend had just acquired it and wanted me to go shooting with him.

We mounted up the pickup and drove over to the corrals.
He had some Remington white box gascheck’d SWCs and we shot-’em all.

I.hauled out my model 19…we shot about a half box of Super Vel and the trade was made.

Have had several more since then.
The last one was a 29-2 new in the wooden box for four hundred bucks even

Dang! I'da at least offered $850! What a tightwad.

Seriously though, the guy buys and sells guns to make money at something he likes. These guys, like Pawn Shops, are needing to buy low and sell high.

Not my first choice for a buyer of a gun I want retail for. I can't get mad at either on7e of yas........ ;)

I'm always surprised when someone gets insulted. It's his job to buy guns cheap and sell them for the most profit. There's no guy code to make a reasonable and fair offer.
Really it wasn’t even the offer, I’ve had people offer me expensive RC cars before, it was the “do me a favor” part. I forgot to mention (definitely should’ve been a huge part of the original post) he had a 29-2 6” on his table already for $2,000 in the same condition.

but at worst I’ve kept my 29-2 to shoot another day or shop at another show. A fellow does have a box and tools for sale in town but I’m not sure I want to spend any extra on it if I may sell it off soon. Gun decisions are tough

So I go to a small gun show this past weekend, I get at least 1 a month in my hometown, and I bring the picture revolver just to see what attention it may get. It’s a 29-2 6.5” 3T, the Dirty Harry deluxe. A guy at a table (I understand the vendors always try and undercut) has a look at it and decides to “do me a favor” and give me “$800 cash money right now.” The audacity of this man to even think that in 2023 even a desperate man would depart from this piece history for $800 was infuriating. For the first time at a gun show, amongst my gun loving brethren, I could only respond with “just give me my -censored- gun back.” Now, did something happen that I’m not aware of that made SW .44Mags cheap paperweights? I think you were overly sensitive, and maybe haven.t been to as many shows as you let on. It sounds like business as usual to me.

Years ago when the G42 was still pretty new on the market we went to a local gun show. I had been wanting more magazines for my still almost new G42 and, although they were extremely hard to find, one dealer had rows and rows of them - for $45 each! Remember, this was years ago. I asked one of the helpers (it was a very large table) if the guy would take less for a quantity buy. The answer was no. OK, I walked away. He may STILL have all those magazines. 😃

How often have you ever tried selling a gun to a dealer? I'm surprised he offered you that much!

Cause the average joe or jane can't handle the recoil or does not want to. I know a lot of folks that had 44mags before the Dirty Harry flicks. Remember, a bunch of wimps at the FBI almost permanently ruined the best auto caliber ever - the mighty 10mm
