So I go to a small gun show this past weekend, I get at least 1 a month in my hometown, and I bring the picture revolver just to see what attention it may get. It’s a 29-2 6.5” 3T, the Dirty Harry deluxe. A guy at a table (I understand the vendors always try and undercut) has a look at it and decides to “do me a favor” and give me “$800 cash money right now.” The audacity of this man to even think that in 2023 even a desperate man would depart from this piece history for $800 was infuriating. For the first time at a gun show, amongst my gun loving brethren, I could only respond with “just give me my -censored- gun back.” Now, did something happen that I’m not aware of that made SW .44Mags cheap paperweights?

No, but prices for tables at gun shows have skyrocketed costing him more; revolvers are harder to push when black plastic rules the day - not saying his offer was fair, but let's remember gun shows, like pawn shops, are the WORST place to sell to a vendor

Nothing new happened. Its called dealing, buy low, sell high. Enjoy the game.
I’ve been enjoying the buy/sell/trade game the last year, been fun and I’ll keep doing it. But that offer was flatout dishonesty and ripoff attempt. The truly irritating part is their isn’t a vendor that doesn’t know me since I go every month, they all know that I bring high quality guns and know the value

Prices have to start somewhere. You should have told him what price you wanted.......It's called dickering.......
I had paraphrased the convo. It started with “how much you want for this? And don’t say $1,000.” So I replied “okay, I want $1,500” with a chuckle. Some light banter ensued on how awesome those guns are and how they’re really sought after guns, yada yada, then the audacity

Don't take it personally, he was just testing the waters. You could have come back with "double that and we can talk", or something that would let him know that you knew what it is worth. All he would do with it is turn it at the next show, and the less he paid you for it, the greater his profit later. Anybody in the business of selling isn't going to offer what a thing is truly worth to start with, if they plan to stay in business.

There are many factors involved. Margins, hauling the weapon around from show to show, just because you like it doesn't mean others do. So many factors.
In the end, it's just a thing and the fact you want to sell it shows you are done with it. It's just a thought.

From the image you posted, I see a Model 29 with some wear indicators. Around here, these sell for $1000-$1200, dependent on condition. I think you received a fair offer. If, as you indicate, he is a dealer, he has to have room to make money when he sells it.

If you don’t care for his offer, that is fine. I don’t see the need to bad mouth him for making a fair offer.

If you are in it long enough, you are going to need thick skin in the gun selling, swapping, and buying business. I finally learned to smile, shake my head, and walk away from what I considered an insultingly low offer on a gun. It's not going to ruin my day. Dealers are in it to make money; some of them just want to make a lot more money than others on a deal. Just the nature of the game.
