I don't own one, but it's on my list. Please, this is not an M&P or Glock thread. I "can" pull the trigger and nail the target with this gun. IMHO, the ergo's on the Sigma are off the chart excellent!

1. What prevents accidental discharge if the gun is dropped?

2. Describe what happens internally when the trigger is pulled?

3. How do the internal workings of the gun make it safe to carry?

If the "trigger safe" isn't ingauged the gun will not go off. This I think answers most of your questions. I will post the inter workings a bit later. Your right this gun doesn't get the credit it deserves.

2. Describe what happens internally when the trigger is pulled? Striker is pulled to the rear, striker safety plunger is actuated, trigger bar cams down. When trigger bar cams down enough to let the striker move forward, BANG. ;)

3. How do the internal workings of the gun make it safe to carry? You have to pull the trigger in order for the striker to move forward enough to fire a round. You can drop it from a high rise onto it's muzzle and it is not going to go off. The safety plunger will simply not allow the striker to move forward while it is "at rest".

Thanks guys for the replies!

I find this very interesting. I have owned several autos before, but never a striker fire type, always DA/SA with exposed hammer, safety, decocker , etc.

Another question:

Am I correct in this assumption?
When you insert a loaded mag and rack the slide, there is no spring pressure trying to push the striker forward? In other words, you're not relying an a mechanical blocking device (safety) to prevent the striker from striking. Only when you pull the trigger does the striker start loading up under spring pressure? Is that correct?
