ok lets see if i can get this stright.
i own a 9ve and a buddy owns the 40ve
are the frames and slide rails the same and can i put the 9ve on the 40ve frame and slide and put the 40ve on the 9ve frame and slide?

so i think to really make it short is the difference between the two just the barrels

i know 9 cant shoot a 40 and a 40 cant shoot a 9

I don't know that much about Sigmas except that they have undergone several in-line changes over the years to enhance reliability and ease manufacturing... I have no idea if these changes prevent interchangeability or not.

I do know however that we are glad to have you here and thank you for your first post!

Welcome!

Try it and let us know! The worst that will happen is a failure to feed, failure to eject, or a failure to fire. It also won't hurt anything to *try* to mount the slide on the opposite frame. Seriously doubt that you will blow yourself up.

The magazine wells should be the same also...

Good luck,
Chris

Not according to OKFC on the other forum. He answered the exact same question yesterday I believe. He said something to the effect of the magazines wouldn't work.

I found what he said about it:

"Yes the frames are different. I have both the 9 and .40 Sigmas, and you can't make one into the other by swapping parts. The 9 frame will not accept a .40 magazine and the 9 magazine rattles around in the .40 frame. Not safe to try."

I wouldn't swap parts and try to fire it. I've run a 9mm into a 4003, not on purpose, and it functioned ok. I would be leery of trying to run a 40S&W into a 9mm. If it somehow went off, the bullet would not be completely chambered and bad things would probably happen.

I have found a way to have the SW9ve upper and barrel work on the SD40ve frame or vice versa. I bought a 9mm SD9ve off GB and a SW40ve upper off there too. The SW9ve frame has ribs running vertical in the grip. the SW40ve does not have those ribs. Here is what I did, I took a flat file and filed the ribs down on the SD9ve frame until I could get the 40 cal magazine to lock in place. Now doing that made the 9mm magazine loose in the grip (frame) I then took some painters tape and put one strip down each side of the 9mm mag and it worked. I plan on getting some muscle tape which would last longer. It worked for me but I'm not suggesting anyone try it.......

If you want interchangeability on that level, my strong suggestion would be to avoid doing a Bubba on an SWVE series gun and pick up an M&P. The 9mm and 40 share the same frame and slide dimensions. All I would need to change my Gen 1 M&P .40 into a 9mm or .357 Sig is a barrel. Maybe a recoil spring. I would say I'd need the magazines too, but I have a 2.0 M&P 9mm so I have those already. Just make sure the parts are from the same series, 1st generation and 2.0 stuff are not really cross compatible due to the design changes from one generation to the next.

As another data point, the SD9VE and SD40VE slides will not interchange between frames, and barrels will not interchange between slides, going either way.
The SW40ve and the SW9ve slides will interchange, but there are ribs in the 9mm frame and none in the 40cal.
It was my way of having 2 frames that could be either 9mm or 40cal.....hey it works for me......
I might just JB weld the sides of the 9mm mags.
Don't ask me what night sites I found that worked on the slides, but are not from S&W, LOL....

Dunno, I was working with SD9VE and SD40VE, and they definitely do not interchange. The rails are
significantly further apart on the SD40VE slide, and don't come close to linking up with the 9mm frame.
Barrels also will not interchange; .40 barrel is too fat to fit into 9mm slide, and 9mm barrel rattles
around in the .40 slide.

I never said the SD9ve or the SD40ve was interchangeable, Just the "SW40ve and the "SW9ve slides will fit both frames, but the mags will not work because of the small rials inside of the "SW9ve frame. The "SW40ve does not have the rails.... That said, the 9mmmags in a 40cal frame will be very loose in the 40 cal frame. The other side of the coin is the 40cal slide on a SW9ve frame will not work with SW40ve mags, they just won't go into the frame because of the small rails inside.
