Sunday Shale Pit Shootout

It was a sunny, 70 degrees here in NW Pennsylvania, perfect for some range time at the shale pit. I brought my 442 and Shield 9mm. Curt brought his Shield 9mm, model 67 and model 625JM.

Here is our range setup for the day.
We had 5 steel plates and 2 target stands with the furthest plate at 30 yards.

We started off ringing steel for a warmup. Here is Curt with his Shield.

I am shooting Curts 625 in this one.

Next we moved on to some defense oriented shooting

We ended up with more steel

We spent about 2 hours at the pit refreshing our skills and shooting the breeze.

We were talking about Curt's model 67 at the range. You don't see them too often. A few years ago, Curt called me from the a gun shop about a half hour from town. They had the 67 on the used gun rack and he asked me about it and then told me the price they were asking. I said buy it if you can. It is a really nice shooting gun. While shooting we were commenting that it was strange that they didn't make a 2 inch, since it is the stainless version of a model 15 which came in a 2 inch variant.
Also, the other stainless K frames, the models 64, 65 and 66 all came in at least 2 and up to 4 barrel lengths in the case of the model 66, except for the model 67, which was only made with a 4 inch barrel.

I have a 1969 model 15-3 and yes, a Combat Masterpiece is tough to beat, whether stainless or blued.

Hard to beat a day at the range with some great firearms and time with good friends. We both did well during the defensive drills and I am always impressed with how well we hit the target while on the move.

Hard to beat a day at the range in good weather with excellent firearms. Due to declining health issues, I don't get to the range like I used to but I am always glad to see others having a great time. BTW, love that T Shirt.
