As a way to get started do a search for "grip repair" in the gunsmithing forum. You'll get about 500 responses.

DWFAN (Paul) over on the blue forum used to be "The Man" when it came to wood repair, but he got out of it years ago and I don't think anyone of that level of skill and care has replaced him. :(
