Does anyone have information (reference sources, images etc) on the various hand engraving levels that Smith did back in the P&R days... (probably early 80s and further back)... I believe that "Factory Class A" is one example...

I am not interested in the current engraving that are done by machine...

Hand engraving by Smith Wesson was Class A B and C

Class A was 90 to 100 % coverage Full coverage

Class B was 50% to 75% coverage 2/3 Coverage

Class C was anything less than 50% 1/3 coverage On the metal only not including grips

My Smith is a class C coverage. Wife had this done for me for retirement DSCF3112.JPG DSCF3111.JPG DSCF3113.JPG

It also depended on that the client wanted or special orders ..

Laser Engraving was only offered in 1989 and 1990 a very short time You can verify engraving by calling the engravers sections at 1-800 331 0852 Ext 2904
