I just bought a S&W 64-4 and 64-5.
The only differences in the revolvers that I can tell are the 64-4 has the squared off grips and the 64-5 has the round grips with ribs on the front and back of the frame between the grips. But, one weird thing is the 64-4 has a stamped serial number where the 64-5 has a Telus type or electric pencil serial number. Has anyone ever seen this? Serial number is BUA00--- Any idea what year it is? Telus Engraving.png

I have several S&W that have the electo pencil type serial numbers. I think it started with some guns in the late 90's. I have a Model 686-5 that has the serial number on the frame right under the cylinder. Not very attractive, but I've seen others like this. Not a big deal. Its just computer engraving instead of stamping the steel by hand
