Does anyone have or know of a website or link for S&W pistol serial number lookup? As I’ve got a 686-4 I’m looking for date of manufacture on as well as potential value.
Post pictures here including the serial number on the butt of the gun and someone will look up the shipping date. All we really need is the triple alpha serial prefix. With good, well lighted and sharp pictures, we can give you some idea of what it might be worth.

For the uninitiated, the “Hilary hole”?It was made in 1994. I recently sold a 686-6 much like yours but with fewer blemishes for $750. But, it had the Hilary Hole and some aftermarket grips. Let's see what others think.
The internal lock that Hilary forced S&W to implement. For the uninitiated, the “Hilary hole”?
AH! The firing pin block? The internal lock that Hilary forced S&W to implement.
You’re ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! As the firing pin was moved from the hammer, internally. To accommodate that REDONKULUS p.o.💩.I believe it is a hammer block. Some S&W revolvers don't have hammer mounted firing pins.
Looks like a model 13 from 1993. That is a very desirable revolver with the 3 inch barrel and is worth around $850, and $100 more if the original box and documents are includedI am looking at a 3" s&w .357 from a deceased friend's wife. I know nothing about s&w revolvers. Serial BNW1627. Photos attached. I need help with model number etc. Please and thank you.
