I'm trying to help my sister sell some of her late husband's guns. I have an S&W 19-5 2.5" blue with Pachmayr grips with finger groves. Serial number is AAZ9530.
A couple of questions... 1) could these have been original grips? (they don't look like the Special Service issue Pachmayr grips mentioned in Wiki nor does it have the parkerized finished), 2) If not the original grips would trying to find some wood S&W grips be worth it? 3) what is the value of this gun? (it is in very good condition). I'll include a pic of the gun. Thanks.

Best guess on manufacture date is between 1983 and 1985. The stocks are not factory original. Starting with the M19-7 in 1995, M19's started coming out with Uncle Mike's rubber grips. Personally, I think wood stocks look much better, but it depends on what you plan to do with the gun. Standard PC magna stocks are what came on the 2-1/2" round butt, like the ones on this M66-1 below, which is the stainless steel version of a M19. If you have the original box and papers, the revolver should bring $750-$800, maybe as much as $900 depending on where you are. M19's did not come Parkerized, only in blue carbon steel or nickel plated carbon steel.

There are different grips available in the aftermarket, slightly larger combat grips shaped more like your rubber ones but not quite as large. Factory stocks like the ones below would cost you around $100, aftermarkets can go from around $60 to $150 depending on manufacturer and style.

Even with the aftermarket grips, it would be an easy $800-$1000 in my area and would sell very quickly. Factory round butt wood stocks look good, but they are no fun when you touch off a couple of .357 rounds. I don't see many 2 1/2" 19's for sale lately. Unless you are in a financial bind, I would keep that one. Good luck.
