I recently purchased a 52-2, when I took it apart to clean it I noticed that the barrel was polished out from the breech about one third of the way. The rest out to the muzzle was not polished and had a "milky" appearance. Is this normal or has something been done to it?

If the feed ramp were polished it would be shiny. It is the most accurate semi auto that S&W ever made. But it is also very temperamental gun too. The bullets have to be perfectly flat with the top of the case and have a roll crimp or they will not feed well.

Have fun and enjoy it and welcome to the board.

Thanks, Yes feed ramp is polished and so is one third of the barrel, it just looks like it was partly done and not completed. I had a 52 about 25 years ago and sold it to buy a motorcycle, glad to have one back.

Jasper13,
Welcome to the Forum. I love my 52s (just two...not a herd). I know understand why you would want to replace your gun. Sweet shooters. Do you reload? Most who shoot this gun do reload.
