Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! My guess would be March 1976. 
Our SN tables are not precise enough to nail down a year, much less a month. The receipt is more accurate than anyone except the S&W Historian can provide. Please keep the receipt and any other data you have on your grandfather with the gun. That's known as "provenance" and adds value if you ever decide to sell it. If you never sell it but pass it on to your children, it heirloom history and it's invaluable.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! Give us the serial number from the butt of the gun. If it has a letter prefix, include that.

That serial number is from 1955 which is 5 years before a Model 60 was produced. The font of the numbers is not typical S&W. Is there a serial number under the barrel or on the breech face of the cylinder?

The serial number on the butt is not valid. The lowest numbered Model 60 was serial number 401754 in 1965. Your gun has had the serial number scraped off and a new number stamped. So, technically, it is contraband. However, it is not likely that any legal entity will take umbrage over this. Just don't use it in any illegal activity and you should be fine.
