A buddy of mine has a 12 ga. 11-48 with a serial # of 50810XX. I'm having a problem with finding even an approximate date. It doesn't have a letter prefix. Any ideas? Thanx.

There is a code on the left side of the barrel. You can find the info somewhere on the web.
The date code you spoke of is a bit confusing to me. There are 3 letters (RYY). The YY looks like they were stamped together, but the R looks a little different. If the YY is correct it dates to 1952, but if it's the R it's 1968. Also, the R could mean November 1952. I took a pic if that helps. Any ideas? Thanx for your reply.

^^ Makes more sense than what I found. The model dates from 1948- (?) 1957. It is a stylized version of the Remington 1911/11 which is a licensed copy of the Browning Auto 5. A recoil operated semi-auto.
