It was in the mid 60s yesterday with sunny skies. First day over 60 degrees this year so Curt and I got the shale pit for some range time. Just as we finished setting up our targets we heard thunder followed by a light sprinkle, which quickly developed into a steady rain. We checked weather radar and decided to ride it out in the car. After 10 or 15 minutes the rain stopped and the sun came back out.
Here are the guns we shot. I brought my m15, 442 and Shield. Curt brought a model 66 and a 67

We do this drill pretty often. Curt yells "Threat!", and as I am seeing the gun he calls out 2 colors. Shooter has to double tap each as fast as possible. Here I am shooting the Shield.....

...and here my 442

If you do it right, it looks like this..

Shooting steel. The frame is an old porch swing. It sets up and breaks down in just a couple minutes

As Curt walked towards this target, I called out "Threat"! Curt responds by drawing & firing. Caught this photo right as he shot

Here he is firing while backing away

We ended up each taking 6 shots at this target from 30ft. I used my model 15, and Curt his 67. He was shooting wadcutter

Surprised Curt didn't post anything yet. We only got 21 rounds out of his model 66 before disaster struck. I was shooting it and had a couple clicks with no bang. Trigger didn't feel right and wouldn't completely reset so we stopped to inspect

Broken hammer nose. This could lead to a few discussions on revolver reliability vs semi auto, or old style S&W vs newer with internal firing pin. That being said, Curt & I have probably fired 20,000-25,000 rounds from revolvers over the past 5 or 6 years and this is the first time anything had broken

Great Range day up until the hammer nose broke on one of my favorite revolvers. Will be getting that out to my local gunsmith (when able) to have fixed. The day continued with good results with the other firearms and I got to exercise the 67-5 some more. Fine shooting revolver I must say. Hopefully will get the 66-2 fixed ASAP to put back in my EDC rotation. Good day at the range despite the malfunction.;)

Looks like y’all had a great time. Nothing like burning a little powder and sending lead down range to clear the mind. I really don’t know how many rounds I have shot in my lifetime and I have never even seen a hammer nose broken off. Doesn’t look like it would be hard to fix. I would try it.

Curt and Jonesy, I envy you two. Good shooting partners are hard to find. I lost mine several years ago. Good shooting partners are difficult to find that are safe to shoot with and brings their own ammo:bullets::cool:

Hadn't really considered replacing the hammer nose myself but may consider it after I do a little research on YouTube.;)
