Greetings,

I recently acquired a model 442 matte black snub nose. I reached out to smith and Wesson, and they said the gun was manufactured in 1993. I want to carry this gun but before doing so, I would like to know more about it.

1) I noticed my gun doesn't say "Airweight" on the side like the newer 442s. Is this normal? is it not an Airweight version?

2) Is my gun made of stainless steel with a carbon steel cylinder like the new 442s? If not, what is it made of?

I greatly appreciate any insight on my newly acquired gun store pickup. Thank you!

I had one of these in that timeframe, and IIRC the 442 was an aluminum frame with steel cylinder and barrel. I don't recall it being marked as "Airweight".

NOT +P rated, as noted.
