According to the SCSW book, it was available in Nickel. I have never seen one in person, and don't know if the cylinder face and/or grip frame were stamped with a "N" like later guns. The extractor star would have still been blued. The hammer and trigger would have been steel and probably case hardened. If they are plated same as the frame, then it was not done in the factory.
There could not have been many like that, in 1952, S&W listed it as "Blue Only". See lower left in the pic (I stole that image from someone else).
