I bought a really messed up file at a yard sale for 25 cents. A quarter, and he threw in a short one, it was missing 1/4 of the original length. Got it cherry red until it was not attracted to a magnet, let it cool and worked on it. Got it looking right and went to the desert to heat and quench it. Used an air bed inflator to provoke the ironwood coals and used ATF, no, not the government agent, to quench the blade, edge first. Brought some ironwood home to make the scales (handle) and have it about done. The edge needs work along with perfecting the bottle opener. 20200407_153415_1586299782850.jpg
We spent time in the desert social distancing and shooting doing it and listened to great music while getting it this far. Bigger than I wanted but,, it should have no trouble working through a rack of ribs.
