Put some food together today.

As the headline reads, put together some 200 gr jacketed bullets for it. Ordered some new casings from starline. They seem to be very nice. They went thru the press well. A little on tight side, but they measure up very good. Plus I never loaded up new brass before, so I'm thinking tight is good.
When the snow melts some more I'll be able to get up the hill to my little target range and shoot this gun.

I tried the trigger today on it. It's been a while since I shot my last 44, but the s&w trigger is nice. Very smooth. I'm impressed with it.
Any who, here's a pic.

I did shooting this weekend with it. Shot at 20 yds only.
I forgot how powerful a 44 mag is. I did manage to get most of them on the target. But my hand is feeling it.
I think I'm going to stick with the 200 gr bullets. The 240 packs a recoil. Till I get used to it again.
The gun and trigger are nice.

I used a pair of thin gloves today, as it was a little below freezing. I could use a slightly smaller set of stocks for it. But, I don't want any rubber type. I thought I'd check on a set hogue wooden stocks.
Overall, it's a nice shooting gun. I'm liking the s&w.

An older, bigger sister showed up.

Picked up my 2nd today.
A 29-2 with a 8 3/8 barrel from 1977.
Only a little muzzle wear on both sides at the end.
Very nice gun overall, I think.
Polished her up some this afternoon. Looks pretty good.
This one's going hunting with me this year. If I can hold her steady. She is loooong and heavy. But she looks like she can get the job done.
Anywho, here's a pic. 20180328_174118.jpg

You done stepped out onto the slippery slope.

Lots of good folks waiting for you at the bottom:D;)
I believe you are correct.
The best or worst thing is that 4th edition.
Makes me drool.

The 3rd girl arrives next week.

A sneak on it, it's not a n frame.
But I just couldn't talk myself out of it.

Gonna be another long week.

Got a new set of stocks.

Bought a set of hogue wooden stocks for the m29-3 today.
The hogue set are nice. They fit my hand a lot better and they fit the gun very good. I'm hoping to try them out this weekend.
I now understand the gaga over the original s&w " coke bottle" stocks. They really fit well.

Why would they have stopped making them?

Anywho, here's some more gun porn.

Decided to clean out my original s&w model 386.

Disclaimer first!

Don't do what I'm doing, if you don't have a certain amount of confidence or a trained gunsmith close by.

That being said.

I removed the side plate on the 386 and cleaned the internals out. Oiled it back up and reassembled it.
Had 1 problem with a spring that fell out place. But a little patience and fiddling got it all back together.

It was an interesting excursion and definitely learned a lot. I can see where some polishing of parts would really smooth up the operation.
Overall a good learning excursion for me.
Anywho, here's a few pics.

Then all back together.

Boredom is the enabler.
The hard part was deciding which gun would be ginny pig. I figured the 386 fit the bill the best.
And the m29 has a date with the range tomorrow.

That's some pretty shiny hardware. Looks darn good.
Right now I prefer old and blue with wood.

But, I reserve the right to change my mind as soon as I'm done typing this.

An old new shooter that isnt?

Are you as confused as I am?
I bought what i thought was a nice old shooter gun.
It's a model 14 K38 Masterpiece. I spent a few hours polishing her up this afternoon.

My first surprise was the stocks are numbered to the frame. I was like holy crap.
Then as i kept working the polish, it just started to shine and pop.
I've only gone over 2 times so far. I'll work on it more tomorrow. It looked decent to start with. But now it's starting to amaze me. The blueing is really starting to shine.
It's like looking at a blueish black mirror.
I've polished my others to, they aren't like this one.
I'm thinking these old guns were truly gorgeous when new.
If it was shot, it wasn't a lot. When I get done with her, I dont think I'll be able to dirty it up.
It might be a safe queen for me. That's weird for me.
I shoot everything I own.
But this old gal has a shine coming out I haven't seen before.
Anywho, here's a few pics,

Pretty darn good for 58 years old, I think.

Hey S,

The K 38 looks great.

Already has a turn line and bluing wear on ejector rod...

Shoot it! Cast/plated bullets won't hurt it a bit! (make ya grin!) LOL

I know it's got a little use. But it's probably as close to unfired as I'll get.
But, your right, I should just shoot it. The trigger seems really nice. Maybe this weekend, if this rain moves out.

Hey S,

Take lots of ammo. LOL K 38's love ammo! LOL

Will be up to Hershey in a couple weeks.

Am "squaded" to shoot Thursday & Friday afternoons PSA Shootout - Home https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSa3UaUHDoY

Then, will be shooting at Hamburg Club (in Shartlesville) on Saturday (Steel Challenge Format). Hamburg Rifle & Pistol - Forms & Links

Either one is fun to watch!

If you intend on riding up to either (the PSA is a real treat, most of the best shooters in the Country show up), PM me, and we can trade phone numbers.
