Hi all I usually frequent the Colt forum but dabble with smiths! I have the opportunity to buy what looks like a very nice 4” 686 no dash and no M with box and papers. Values seem all over on GB. What would be a fair value for purchase on this? Also year made?
Thanks in advance.
K

I have the absolute twin to that one! Beautiful firearm!

No box or paperwork with mine though...

My 686 no dash no M acquired 10 years back has been flawless with mild to wild handloads.
YMMV
I’ve had no motivation for it to get “fixed.”

Very nice, at $750 go for it. Great guns and that looks near mint with no lock, very desirable. In 1985 S&W was still at their best. Definitely do NOT send it in for the modification.

Looks really clean.. I think you did good.

As for the "M" mod recall, there's no overwhelming need for it now. The basis of the recall resulted from a very specific situation with ammo loaded with lighter weight bullets at high velocity, by an unnamed manufacturer in the recall notice... but most know it was specifically Federal with their soft primers.

Stick with the standard weight bullet and velocity ammo and you'll be fine. I have a 686 no dash and two 586-1's, no issues for over 20 years.
