M&P # 838236 with factory swivel. It is marked properly, but does not have the S prefix.
Is this the norm for a late revolver with lanyard loop, to leave the S off? I see there is no room to add an S to the butt.
I cannot see the other numbers on the revolver. Thanks, Big Larry

Is it a .38 Special or BSR? What kind of grips are on it? I think it is likely a 1941 or early 1942 model that was made before the V serial numbers started. The S series carried forward from the last V series guns made in 1945. Except for the "S" the numerical part of the serial could be duplicated with pre-war models.
