I have a 38 S & W Special CTG, Made In USA, number on revolver barrel/handle is 438572. How much is this worth today? Thank you for your assistance.

The right side of the barrel only tells you the caliber the gun is chambered in, not much about the model or the age of the gun. There may be a letter like "S", "V", "C" or "K" on the bottom of the grip before the s/n, the gun may have round or square grips, 2", 4", 5" barrel, etc...
You will need to provide some additional information, AND some pictures of the revolver to get a meaningful answer, and even then the condition of the gun may be hard to tell from pics.
As Pete said, all you have provided is the caliber the gun is chambered in. Value depends on condition and originality so good pictures are needed to estimate value
Come on folks! We are better detectives than that! We know for what cartridge it is chambered The “MADE IN U.S.A.” gives us the era. Would more details help? Sure, but anyone can play when all the answers are given.

Me? From the skimpy information provided, I haven’t a clue!

But for the OP, read this and get back to us.

I can play that game, as long as I can keep the S&W "dictionary" on my lap and open to the right page...
How about this: .38 Special Hand Ejector, M&P Model of 1905, 4th change, pre-war. Now if anyone can also guess at the value, without seeing a picture, you may be one of the lucky few who saw Elvis getting into a cab last week, ;) ;)

Hi southphilly! Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! I agree with PeteB that you likely have a .38 Military & Police, Model 1905, 4th Change that was made around 1924. These guns are quite common predecessors of the Model 10 and with typical wear value around $500. If significantly worn or modified, much less.
Welcome to the forum!
Probably shipped in 1923. I own s/n 453776 and it shipped 9/1924.
