I now have this Colt. I have a Ruger GP100 in 44 special. 3” barrel. Great packing pistol built like a tank. And the more expensive S&W 696. A nice revolver. I also have a Lipsey Special Ruger Flattop Blackhawk in 44 Special with a 4 5/8” barrel that came out about 20 years ago.

And I also EDC a Charter Arms Bulldog .44 Special with some pretty stiff loads. I like outgunning the opposition.

I love the Black Eagle grips on the SAA. They harken back to the late 19th and early 20th century when these pistols were carried everyday and cherished.

Wood and ivory is also beautiful, but I am partial to these grips. They also fit the hand well.

Also… Elmer Keith blew up a couple in his development of the 44 magnum… 😉

Mostly I like this platform as a easy packing pistol, as defined by John Taffin.

A 44 Special loaded with a good Keith SWC moving out at 900-1000fps will basically kill anything living in the lower 48 states.
