Have a "barn find" definitely a Chief but does not have a model number. Under the yolk is stamped 62987, cylinder side is stamped the same digits, with a random "9" and an "H3". The serial number on the butt is 125263.

Welcome to the forum! The SN would put it in early 1958. The order to add model numbers didn't happen until mid-1957 and any gun far enough along in production wouldn't have been stamped with the model number. The other markings on the gun are assembly and inspection marks.

I'm in agreement with the comments above concerning the OP's Chiefs Special.
I can add that this is what I would call a "three-screw, pre-model marked Chiefs Special", Right after the loss of a second screw (upper sideplate), making it a "three-screw", a batch of roughly 60,000 units were produced prior to the 'Mod. 36' marking. The SN range for these is roughly 73000 to 132000. It would seem that yours is one of them.
