Not a Revolver but a set of sights that convert a S&W HE 44sp 2nd or 3rd model fixed sight revolver to adjustable sights. Has anyone any information on this or other examples. I blew the photo up and believe it to say VGL Patnt Pend or VOL Patnt Pend. any information or pointers appreciated

Those are a aftermarket sight called a "Wondersight", they were popular in the 50's/60's.

They are being made again and available at: Wondersight « Hollow Point Bullet Mold Service

I bought a set years ago and put them on an 6" barrel M&P 1905, 1st Change, and I'm quite pleased. Definitely an improvement on the tiny fixed rear sight notch.
