I acquired this model 59 a few years ago and just recently pulled it out of the safe. Serial number is A259xxx. From what I gather, this is 1974-76? I've read a few conflicting articles about whether the nickel was factory or other. Does anyone have an idea and could give me more info?

Hey David,

Believe nickel was a factory option, at that time.

With good ammo, clay pigeons at 75 yds. are not difficult.

Thanks Mark. I've read that it was factory and others have said it was an after market option. i was just curious. I've only shot it once, but it was a pleasure to shoot. I like the weight of the gun and how it feels. Not to mention it looks great. I'm more of a Gl.., well lets just say S&W isn't my carry pistol.
