Hello all ! New to this forum. I was wondering if anyone could assist me in learning more about a 38-44. I believe it's a outdoorsman with 6.5 inch barrel, adjustable rear sight. It has a nickel finish with pearl grips. It appears to be in very good condition and feels tight. Serial # 38xxx. Thanks

Welcome from Arkansas!

Your gun dates to 1931 or 1932...depending on the next number after 38 in your serial number.

Serial number ranges...
1931 Ser # 36000 - 38374
1932 Ser # 38375 - 41199

Post some pictures...we like pictures :)

From 1939 ...

Welcome to the forum. Someone took real good care of that one.

Carefully remove the grips and look for a "N" stamped under them in the frame. If it's there, it's factory nickle.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes and info sent my way about the outdoorsman. After a little more research on my own concerning the serial # , I found a post that states the beginning serial # for the pre war outdoorsman matches the one offered to me to purchase. If this is indeed the 1st serial number for the outdoorsman, does it have any significance as far as collectability and or value ? I'm still digging but haven't found much more. Thanks in advanced for any help.
