I recently was gifted a 38 S&W special CTG MOD 10-5 14131 G3 nickle plated 6in barrel with a serial number D479558. Very nice pistol. I was told it was manufactured in the '70s but I am questioning that. I was also given 38 special +P ammo to use with it. I was later told by someone else that I should not use that ammo with this pistol as it would ruin the chamber. Is this true, and does anyone know if this was made prior to the '70s?

The gun is capable of shooting plus P s BUT a regular diet of them will loosen the gun up. I suggest that you use lower powered loads and carry the plus Ps only for defense. ..
