My 28- has a bent, actually bowed (by a PO) rebound slide stud. I straightened it somewhat but it needs to be repalced. I ordered one from Numrich but not sure how they are fixed into the frame, and how to remove it. Do they go all the way thru the frame and polished smooth or is there a blind hole.

I've been playing around inside Smith & Wessons for 35 years and what you describe is not a task I would undertake.

Alot like the firing pin bushing.....

I think that for the money and peace of mind, I'd send the 29 back to Smith & Wesson for this work.... they have the tools & jigs to get it right.....

The older guns get threaded in (thru) and the new ones are pressed it. They get refinished on the outside. Look at the aluminum guns, you can see the pins from the outside...
Anyway, this is not a job for the average Joe, have S&W fix it.
