I was recently in an LGS and saw a nice 6" Smith (used) lying in the counter. I took a look to check out the timing and lockup, end shake, etc. The gun is chambered for 357 magnum but in the yoke it is marked Mod. 26-2. It is a 3 screw frame (IIRC), all blue with target grips. From what I have read, the Mod. 26 guns were 45 caliber, not 357. I did not get the serial number or at least don't remember looking at the one stamped in the yoke. The yoke markings appear to be original to the gun with no grinding or polishing there. I am wondering if it is a mismarked Mod. 28-2? Any thoughts?
S&W did make a model 26 that was .45 and discontinued due to poor sales I believe.
