My kit is finally here!

The RCBS Rebel Plus reloading kit finally arrived yesterday. I wasn't sure if it was ever going to actually arrive. When I ordered it around December 6th it was the only kit that I could find that I could actually place an order for. It was supposed to be back in stock around January 6th. Looks like they were true to their word. I checked a week later and it couldn't be ordered and had an in stock date of April..... I figured to start with .223. I ordered a die set and it should be here in about 2 weeks. I was getting a little uneasy reading up on reloading with all the different tools available and I didn't have a checklist for what I actually needed but waited patiently for my kit to arrive. I think it'll be a good starter set so I can learn the ropes. I guess the real challenge is just starting.... Hunting down the brass, bullets, and primers. Oh yeah, and powder. So far everywhere I've looked everything is still out of stock. Any recommendations on powder? Hopefully it won't take to long to accumulate the supplies I need to get started. I have plenty of more reading to do while I wait.

Welcome to S&W!

RCBS (Go Green) makes excellent tools!

Items: MANUALS (as in several. Hornaday, Lyman, Lee...etc These can be found used)

For rifle. Case Trimmer. IMPERIAL SIZING WAX! (you NEED this)!! Primer pocket/flash hole uniformer.

Loading blocks. Scale. Powder Thrower. Dribbler..

H 322 & H 335 are two favorites for the 223.

All of the above, except the IMPERIAL SIZING WAX!, can be located used...in normal times. Gun Club bulletin board. Divorce/Estate Sales. CraigList. Ebay.... (local LGS has a couple of scales & turret presses, gently used, as of Monday)

Reloader's are always "upgrading".....

Right now....everything is hard to get.

You do want to acquaint yourself with CH4D. They make fantastic tools/dies! (they make dies for EVERY BLAME THANG!) Their case trimmer, PRIMER POCKET SWAGER/SEATER ....etc are really well made. (have had my CH4D case trimmer for 40+yrs, still SHARP!)

Got about 20 pounds of 322 and just as much 335 though the amounts are coming down a bit as I'm loading 223 cases currently. Good luck on finding any.

If you need projectiles, Arm and Ally has them in stock for immediate shipment, well, they are shipping direct from Hornady in Grand Island, Nebraska. I've purchased a couple thousand already. They are 55 grain Hornday Spire point Boat tails with the cannelure. Very low BC too. Been loading and shooting them for years now.

You can purchase them in 500-1000 and 2000 quantity. They used to offer a 5000 quantity but not any more. Considering how hard it is to get anything today, it might be a good idea to order up some and I believe they also have Once fired Lake City Brass, cleaned, sized, flash hole reamed for sale as well. I don't need any but you do.

Shipping is excellent, I usually get 3 day delivery via UPS.

Great small game / varmint round as well as a plinking round with 322 0r 335 and small rifle primers.

You won't go wrong with RCBS, Frogger1766. They will rectify any issues you may have; excellent customer service. Good thing that you are patient, as primers and powders are indeed challenging to find.

Find a dealer for Shooters World Powder. This powder is made by the company that used to make Accurate Arms powder before a marketing disagreement. A simple observation: Buy the powder that is on the shelf that will work in the caliber you are loading. What some one else has in 50# bulk quantities doesn't load cartridges in your house.

Lyman makes an excellent reloading manual for cast lead and jacketed bullets in just about every caliber. A reloading manual from your preferred bullet maker will complete your setup. If you don't load Speer bullets, and only shoot cast lead bullets or Hornady jacketed bullets, what does a Speer or Sierra manual do for you.

The course material was prepared by a group that consisted of experts from a number of reloading component and equipment manufacturers. It goes into more of the theory and safety information than any other resource I know.

In the classes that I teach, we run a lab in the afternoon where we actually load some rounds, and then take them out to the club range to chronograph them. This helps introduce you to how a press feels when it's working properly, and how to sense when things go wrong.

I'm very conservative in my approach to reloading. After the class, you'll know why...

BTW, get a copy of George Nonte's book on "Modern Handloading". He goes into theory and will help you develop a perspective on the craft. It's an older book and I found a used copy.
