Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! Sorry for the loss of your friend. But he/she left you a S&W revolver we don't see very often...and in pristine condition. Congratulations! If you would like to know approximately when the gun was shipped, give us the serial number from the butt frame of the gun, inside the ejector rod shroud or face of the cylinder. You can XX out the last two or 3 numbers if you are uncomfortable posting it entirely. The serial begins with an "S". Also, post pictures of the box if you have it.

By the way, the target grips that are on it are much newer than the gun. It would have originally come with magna grips numbered to the gun on the back of the right panel. Do you happen to have them because it is a more valuable package with them?

Looks like 1956 for a shipping date.
