I will have a new to me model 57.
I did not have time today to go pick the revolver up. I will find the time tomorrow.
Hope all goes well. The revolver has been sitting at the gun shop for almost a month. I hate layaways. It's a birthday gift from my wife. So I had to wait until my birthday. Never know about the condition when a gun sits that long. The revolver was supposed to be taken out of the sales case. I hope so I'll have to do a inspection. In the past I have seen plenty of people handle guns that were on layaway. Accidents happen things get dropped etc. Time will tell. The last model 57 I owned I gave to my Son. That one was a first year example and about 99% condition. Now I'm going to settle for a later 70's example. It's pinned and recessed. But No cokes. I can live with that. It has been about ten years since I had a 57 in my collection. I'll post some pix tomorrow.

Update She is home

She needs a good cleaning. I will take care of the later. Anyway here she is. She will clean up great. My wife makes me wait for my gifts. I do not like it but in this case she did good. It's a bad picture hard to get a good one under my bench lights. I'll post a better picyture after the cleanup

Re: In less than 24 hours a Model 57

Jim, welcome back into the 57 fold my friend! One could say that I'm a bit of a .41 nut. The 57 no dash came home with me earlier this summer. Remarlibly, it was my 4th .41 but my first Smith in .41. To say the least, I was long over due!

Jim, I believe that only the earliest 57s came with cokes. Your new one being an N serialed gun would have not come with them anyway.

Ken, that is a beauty!

That's a beautiful 57 you have. I also like the .41 but grew tired of reloading for it. So I gave it to my Son. He wanted it since he was a small boy. I know I'm way over due for another.

Great early 57. The earlier the better. But they are all good. Some just a little better than others.
I'll snap some pix. Thanks for the pictures to tide me over.

Thanks for the info it's an N numbered one 6" Nickel if I recall the ser# N444xxx I don't remember the last digits. I remember the trip 4's. So it's a late 70's gun maybe 1977 or 78?

Well done Jim. My wife bought a 28-3 a few years ago for a Christmas/ Anniversary gift. It was the start of an addiction

Nice pictures your 57's look very nice.

I lucked out this year. My wife picked a gift I actually like. This one makes up for all the years I would get shirts or ties.

Most of the time my wife treats me nice. It's nice we have a wife that puts up with our addictions.(sometimes)

I will try to get to the range this weekend. I have 100 rnds ready for this one. If the 57 shoots half as good as it feels in hand. I should do real well. With the orange insert on the front sight and white outline rear sight. It sure has a nice target picture. With the 6" tube I should be able to do ok at 50 yards.

I spent a couple hours cleaning and polishing up the 57. It cleaned up real good. This 57 has not been shot very much. It's possible that it has not been shot since it left Springfield. If it was I bet less than a box of 50 were run through it. It is just about as close to new as you will find. I'm glad nobody cleaned it up. I rather do that myself. Anyway Here's a link to the after pic. I will try a link so maybe I can sneak in a larger photo. Just out of curosity. Let me know if the link works.
I need to make a light box. So I can take better pictures. The lighting in my shop is great for working on things. But they sure do suck for photo work. Click on the link for the pic.

Thanks guys my wife was kind this year. As I mentioned it made up for all the shirts and ties. And if I was lucky sometimes it was a sweater. As they say. It's the thought that counts.
