Hey everyone, new to the forum here. I recently acquired a model 439 from my father after it's been sitting in his closet for 20 years. He carried it as a duty weapon and so it was exposed to a lot of weather and dirt. It still functions properly but I was wanting to completely strip it to clean it. My problem is the tray that the rear sights sit in will not come off the slide, I'm sure it's probably rusted on there. I was curious if there's a trick to getting that tray to slide out other than brute force but I dont want to damage the tray either.

I always fail trying a link Gunhacker answered a S&W forums thread on the same subject March 2016 . There is a YouTube video Disassembly of a 4006 with same type sights usually called wings, dog ears and side protectors

Thanks, JB59 I beleive I watched that same video earlier and he tapped his out really easy with a punch but I had no luck trying that and I dont want to damage it because parts are kind of hit or miss for that model
