I have an old Model 38, 38 special. I had to replace a few parts like the bolt and hand. I cannot figure out where the spring for the hand goes. Does it fit inside the trigger somehow where the hand attaches to the trigger?? I must have lost the original spring during disassembly and did not even know there was one until I looked very closely at the schematic of the model 38. I am sure it is something simple I am missing. Thank you. Greg

Howdy and welcome.

The handspring in a modern Smith DA is wire and contained inside the trigger, which is hollow. One end of the wire must be trapped between the hand retaining pins, one of which travels in an oblong slot cut into the side of the trigger.

Takes a good deal of boy english to get it there. If you don't have the correct tool, you may want to consider using a dental floss lasso around one end of the spring.

Not the easiest task in reassembling a Smith DA revolver...
